The Governors meet approximately every six weeks during the term time. The Principal is invited to attend the Governors' meetings and is normally joined in rotation by one of the management team. A number of the Governors have children currently or previously attending the BSN. Each of the Governors has a key area of interest to which he or she will pay particular attention. However, in addition to this, a Governor may take on one or more activities in the development of the school.
The Governors each attempt to visit one of the three school premises each term, spending up to a working day at the school. These visits usually focus on one aspect of the school during each visit, be it information technology, social development, or a curricular issue such as English or music, etc. These visits are an important means for the Governors to stay in touch with the working of the schools, their staff and pupils. The findings of the visits are at least discussed in the Governors meetings and may lead to spin-off activities.
A review of the ongoing financial picture of the school against budget as provided by a financial update is also a regular feature. One or more agenda items are placed before the Governors dealing with medium and long term development of the school, and at appropriate times of the year, the school budget is discussed. One of the standard items at the meetings is to review general school affairs and events as furnished in the Principal's Report. This report covers relevant aspects of the school life, focussing on academic development, staff and pupil issues and health and safety. The report also covers notable activities such as field trips, sports, visits to the school and so on.
