Residential Areas
Moving to a new country can feel overwhelming at times, but here at the British School we do as much as we can to help you adjust and settle in. There are a number of residential areas in and around Den Haag which are popular with expatriates and are well located for the BSN school sites. The most notable are Wassenaar and Voorschoten (particularly for parents with Senior School children) as well as Voorburg, Bezuidenhout and the Statenkwartier. With the new school in Leidschenveen the newer residential areas of Ypenburg, Nootdorp and Leidschenveen are now also becoming more popular locations.
The Hague International Centre
The local authority of the Hague have been making major efforts in recent years to improve the way in which expatriates are welcomed into the city. There is now a specialist help desk (The Hague International Centre) in city hall dedicated to assisting expatriates when they relocate to The Hague. The desk offers a welcome package to new arrivals and forms a point of contact between the individual expat and the municipal administration. It provides information on the services of various municipal departments (parking permits, marriages, registration of birth, converting driving licences, rubbish collection etc.). The Hague International Centre also supplies basic information on health care, education etc.
Further helpful information and advice can be found on The Hague Website. This website is available in Dutch, English, French, German, Spanish, Italian, and Portuguese.
