Academic & Personal Achievement
As a non-selective school we pride ourselves on providing for the individual, mindful of both academic abilities and personal limitations. We believe that all children have the potential for personal academic success – it is quite simply our job to tap into and develop this ability to as high a level as the individual child can achieve. With many children joining the school for relatively short periods of time, we do our utmost to ensure all children gain as much as possible from our curriculum. To assist us in this endeavour, we make use of regular formal and informal assessments to gain an insight into the individual progress and needs of every child. The BSN has an outstanding record of academic achievement within all year groups.
The ratio of teachers to students is good and class sizes are comparatively small, especially in senior years. We take care to ensure that all classes are well balanced across the sexes and have an appropriate ratio of children for whom English is a second language. Classes in the Foundation and Junior Schools benefit from a generous ratio of adults to children, with Classroom Assistants to help and support the work of the Class Teacher. Learning Support Assistants, by arrangement, and other specialist staff are available to help individual children when required.
Outstanding Resources
As the BSN has grown over the years a 'family' of schools has slowly been established, providing the advantages of both smaller welcoming sites with those of a larger, excellently resourced organisation. Each school has its own head teacher and senior management team, but the individual schools and teachers work closely with each other, making use of the unique opportunity to share good practice and care for your child's happy transition through the age ranges. All schools operate under the same organisational aims and objectives.
We recruit teachers and support staff of the highest quality with experience in delivering the UK National Curriculum. Many teachers have taught in international schools before, whilst others bring with them knowledge from inside the system in the UK. Whilst each school site is unique in its own right, all possess equally high standards of facilities and resources suited to the relevant age group. Considerable investment is made every year to update learning and teaching resources to ensure that the BSN remains at the forefront of educational thinking.
The BSN has a well-managed network of support services for Information Systems, Human Resources, Finance, Marketing and Admissions. A number of these support functions, together with the Heads of School join together with the Principal to form the BSN's Board of Management. This Board of Management is responsible for the management and running of all the sites and reports in turn to the school's Board of Governors.
