FAQ's

1. I have just seen a BSN job advertisement in the newspaper. The closing date has passed, can I still apply?

Unfortunately we do not accept any applications which are received after the closing date. The closing date is clearly shown within the job advertisement and the deadline is always at 4pm on the date shown.

2.   I have seen a BSN job advertisement in the newspaper. I do not wish to apply for this post but I wondered if you have any other vacancies which may be of interest to me?

All our current vacancies are displayed on the 'current vacancies' page on the website. We do not have any other vacancies apart from those which are displayed. Our website is frequently updated so we advise you to check the website on a regular basis. We do not accept open applications.

3.   There are three application forms, which one should I fill in?

If you are applying for a full- or part-time position which is advertised on the 'current vacancies' page of our website you should complete the Standard Application Form for Full/Part Time Posts.   If you are applying for supply work (to provide cover on an 'as and when' basis) you should complete the Supply Work Application Form. The BSN Internal Application Form should only be used by existing BSN staff that already have a current full or part-time contract and wish to apply for another vacancy.

4.   Can I apply for more than one vacancy?

It is possible to apply for more than one vacancy at any one time, however you must complete one application form for each vacancy you are applying for.

 5.   Where can I find more information about the vacancy?

For each vacancy, we publish an advert, a job description and a person specification on our website.   These three documents provide you with all relevant and known information which is required to submit an application. Any further details will be given to candidates at interview stage, if selected.

 6.   How do I submit my completed application form?

You should attach your completed application form to an e-mail and send the e-mail to:  hrservices@britishschool.nl

 7.  Why can i only send my completed application form via e-mail and not by fax or post?

This is due to the quick turnaround of application forms between the closing date and the interview date.

 8.   Once I have submitted my application what happens next?

Once your application has been received by the HR department you will receive an acknowledgment e-mail to confirm that we have received your application. This will explain what happens next.  Should you be required to attend an interview you will be contacted via e-mail, therefore we strongly recommend that you regularly check your e-mail once you have applied for a post at the BSN.

 9.   When will my references be checked?

References will be checked prior to interview for teaching posts and we will also do a list 99 check. For all other positions references will be obtained once an offer of employment has been made. All contracts of employment are subject to receiving two satisfactory references and a satisfactory Criminal Record Check or 'Verklaring Goed Gedrag' certificate. Upon offer of employment further details of how to obtain this certificate will be given.

 10.   I have previously applied for a post at the BSN and was unsuccessful. Can I try again?

We recruit on a post by post basis, therefore you are free to try again.

 11.   Does the BSN reimburse daily travel expenses for employees?

We do not reimburse your travel expenses to and from work each day.

 12. I would like to apply for a vacancy but do not have a work permit for The Netherlands , can I still apply?

You must have a valid Dutch work permit 'Werkvergunning' at the time of applying to the BSN. Where applicable, evidence of this must be submitted together with your completed application from.  Unfortunately we will not support an individual's work permit application upon offer of a contract of employment. EU citizens do not need a work permit to work in The Netherlands and are therefore exempt from this requirement.

 13. I live outside The Netherlands , does the BSN reimburse my travel expenses to and from the interview location?

This depends on the type of post you are applying for. Details of travel expenses will be explained to you if you are invited for an interview.

 14. What is 'supply work'?

Supply work is when you work at the BSN on an 'as and when' basis. You do not receive a contract of employment or fixed working hours. You will be called (mostly at short notice) to provide cover for existing staff when they are away on courses, on holiday or absent due to illness. Therefore you must be flexible! This type of work does mean however that you are not tied to your work. For further information on how to apply to join the supply list please see the Current Vacancies page.

 15. I would like to work on a voluntary basis at the BSN, how can I apply?

To apply to work on a voluntary basis you should complete a BSN Supply Work Application Form, clearly specifying on page 4 of the application form that you are interested in voluntary work. Once your application has been received by the HR department you will receive an acknowledgment e-mail or letter (normally within 1 working day) to confirm that we have received your application. This letter will explain what happens next.
