BSN Junior School teams surpass expectations at VUC inter-schools football tournament

Three teams of year 5 and 6 boys from Junior School Vlaskamp (JSV) and Junior School Leidschenveen (JSL) recently competed in the annual VUC inter-schools football tournament in Den Haag.

Most of the boys involved were playing together for the first time and had to quickly learn how to gel as a team and get to know each other’s strengths. There was also an extra incentive for the players as PE staff were using the tournament as an opportunity to identify players who'd potentially join the BSN squad for the COBIS Games taking place in Prague next May.

The year 5's finished second in their age group (Group 6) losing only in the deciding game 1-0 to breakaway goal after dominating both possession and territory throughout. The JSL team comprised both year 5's and 6's and acquitted themselves exceptionally well to finish third in a tough group which combined players from year 6 and 7.

As a further credit to the players, the BSN also received the competitions trophy for sportsmanship/fair play which was voted for by the referees and organisers. This was a tremendous reward for a great day’s football. Well done boys.

There were a number of outstanding performances across all the teams and looking ahead it bodes very well as many of the boys have aspirations of representing the BSN in next year’s COBIS games. This was clearly evident both on the pitch and during the post-match interviews when a number of the players including Pol Lobao Florez, Sam Dun-Rundle, Cameron Taylor, Jude Tatham James Douglas, Simon Allen and Diego Mendo Perrin spoke about their ambitions to make the plane to Prague. Speaking on behalf of his teammates Simon Allen said “ it would be absolutely awesome to get to the COBIS Games”, Pol Lobao Florez also added ”it would make us extremely proud to represent the BSN in Prague and try our best for the school”.

Keep an eye on the BSN website for further updates on the build up to the COBIS Games.
