Dutch gymnasts compete against BSN

previous next

The BSN recently played host to local gymnastics club from Pijnacker.  The result of a “wouldn’t it be a nice idea” comment, the competition was between the ‘wedstrijdgroep’ from Oliveo Gymnastiekvereniging and the BSN Under 9s, Under 10s and Under 11s.

To keep things fair the girls each had to learn a routine which their counterparts were familiar with – the Dutch girls learnt the BSN ‘Set Floor’ (a series of moves set by the Girls Independent Gymnastics Association) and the British School gymnasts did the same with a ‘lange mat oefening’ decided on by Oliveo.  All gymnasts performed the same set and voluntary vaults.

The evening ran very smoothly with all girls performing well – for some it was only their first or second competition so it was quite an important experience.  The Dutch gymnasts were in awe of the BSN Senior School building when they arrived but soon settled into things and proved to be worthy competitors for the BSN.

Both sides were well supported, with a large group of parents giving up their evening to come and watch the gymnasts compete.  After around 1.5 hours of competition the results were announced and there was a good mix of girls from each club stepping up on the podium.

The BSN would like to thank Oliveo for taking part in the competition and putting some of their normal training on hold to learn the new routines.  Oliveo coaches Lisanne & Susanne said how much that they and the girls had enjoyed the experience of coming to the school and have already offered to look into the possibility of hosting the BSN at their own gym at the end of the season – nothing is confirmed yet, but we are sure that the girls would love the chance of a ‘return match’.
