Leidschenveen campus opens!
On Wednesday 24th February, almost 200 children excitedly made their way through the doors of their new school building for the first time. as the whole new Leidschenveen campus was opened.
As he watched the students arrive, David Porritt, Head Teacher of JSL commented “It is wonderful to see the look of excitement and enthusiasm on the faces of the children as they come to their new school. They have waited a long time for this day and I am sure they will enjoy getting used to their new surroundings. The children will all be given an opportunity to look around and explore the building and the grounds and we are looking forward to some events in the near future when we can invite other members of the BSN community through our doors to come and have a look for themselves.”
Further along the campus, the brand new Language Centre now offers greatly improved teaching facilities for the range of Dutch and English language courses that it runs for both adults and children. The Language Centre classrooms form the outer ring of the ‘Community Building’ - this impressive structure also houses the BSN Uniform Shop – helpfully located next to a brand new canteen which leads to a viewing gallery overlooking the Sports Hall. All of these facilities will be available for use by students and parents from all the BSN schools, as well as for rent by the local community.
Also situated on the same campus is the brand new Day Care Centre, run by international childcare specialists Zein Childcare. The centre opened its doors a couple of weeks before the school and is now a ‘home from home’ for a growing number of babies and toddlers aged from 0-3 years old. Zein Childcare also run the After School Care programme at JSL, which is housed in a dedicated facility in the school. The area has been furnished in a rustic style which makes it warm and welcoming, with plenty of games and equipment that give it an instant 'club house' feel.
Principal of the BSN, Dr Martin Coles summed the Leidschenveen project up - “This new campus marks a new chapter in the BSN's history – we have three outstanding buildings on this site and together with our other Junior Schools in Mariahoeve and the Senior School in Voorschoten we now have first class teaching and community facilities located in different key residential areas of the city. We are now able to provide more high quality school places than ever before for The Hague's international community.”
