Participating in this annual running event in The Hague has become a tradition for the BSN and one of the highlights of the year. It’s open to all students and staff as one of our wellbeing initiatives. Many parents also join the youth races as coaches.

Last year the event had to be cancelled due to a storm, which was very disappointing. Luckily, this year the event went ahead as planned—on Sunday 8 March. Weather conditions were much more favorable for running (less so for spectating); a bit damp and cold.

BSN participated in all distances:

  • 1 K (Kilometre) youth race;
  • 2.5 K youth race;
  • 5 K;
  • 10 K;
  • And, for the very fit and brave, the Half Marathon.

This is a very popular event so there is always a good atmosphere and plenty of supporters. This year 35.000 people took part! BSN runners were easy to identify thanks to a specially designed t-shirt. Some members of staff chose to accessorise this with multi-coloured tutus.

Our stand on the Malieveld was busy as students arrived to pick up their running bibs. Students returned post race, proudly wearing their finishers medals—as did staff. To have taken part is a great achievement no matter what the distance. Well done to all runners!

A big thank you to the HR team for organising and to all the school and parent volunteers who made this a wonderful cross-school experience. Thank you also to all those who came out to support.
