How To Apply

Junior School Assen

Welcome to The Helen Sharman School, in what promises to be a very special school year. As a team we are committed to ensuring that this year is a very positive one which is rich and varied in learning experiences for the children. Our small class sizes enable us to optimally meet children’s individual needs, and we plan activities which bring the different age groups together to extend the learning opportunities and social interaction for the children. We take part in regular trips and visits out of school, but also plan enrichment activities which ‘invite the outside world in’. This coming year, for example, we are looking forward to visits from musicians, dancers, children from local schools, a Science Day, and a visit by an English Theatre Company. We will also be visited again by our patron, Helen Sharman, who was the first British astronaut.

Here at the Junior School Assen (The Helen Sharman School) we believe in the education of the whole child and place your child at the heart of everything we do. We encourage an attitude of aiming high and support every individual in achieving their full potential. Our team of highly qualified professionals has extensive experience in welcoming and educating children from all nationalities and backgrounds, working alongside parents as partners in their child’s education.

We pride ourselves in the ‘family’ atmosphere of our school community and value the contributions made by its members. Our School Council regularly consults with fellow pupils and with staff over issues important to their school. Our parents regularly work with staff to enrich the experiences of all our pupils, valuing different cultures, needs and interests. We encourage the children at our school to be happy, confident, enthusiastic and open-minded.

Please take time to look at our school newsletter, which can be found below and is sent to all our parents every second Thursday. We are proud of our newsletter as one of our methods of communicating with parents, and we are sure that if you look through some past copies you will learn about some of the exciting learning opportunities which the children have been involved in.
