Languages

As a reflection of the diversity of cultures within the BSN, the school is committed to providing a wide range of language provision at all levels – both within the curriculum and outside it.

The details below relate to languages taught within the curriculum and standard school day. For information on language clubs and courses after school please contact the BSN Language Centre.

Native Language Enrichment Programme
From Year 7 students also have the opportunity to join the Native Language Enrichment Programme – a programme intended to provide 'fast track' tuition for students in their native language. Students are then able to take examinations in their mother tongue at an earlier point in their Senior School career.

This programme is currently available in Spanish, French, Dutch, German and Italian.

Within the Senior School the students also benefit from a system of Native Language Assistants who supplement and support the work of the teacher during lessons.

French, German & Spanish
These languages are studied as part of the compulsory curriculum in Year 7, 8 & 9. These subjects become optional in Year 10 & 11.

Taster Courses
To further enhance our student's cultural understanding, the BSN also provides taster sessions in languages as diverse as Mandarin Chinese and Hebrew.
