The Learning Support Department assists any student identified as having Special Educational Needs. Strategies include in-class support within a student’s normal programme, as well as withdrawal from lessons for intensive individual and small group work.
The progress of students is carefully monitored and recorded - consultation and feedback are regarded as a vital and integral part of the process.
Study Skills
Students are also provided with the opportunity to participate in additional Study Skills classes to assist their organisational skills. Study Skills classes are a non exam option choice from Y10 to Y12 and are particularly helpful when students are considering their choices for GCSE &/or A-Levels and you feel they may benefit from extra curriculum support & guidance for their exam years.
The classes look at the following areas:
• Preferred learning styles
• Note taking skills
• Reading for different purposes
• Memory skills
• Essay planning & writing skills
• Curriculum support for examination subjects
• Revision skills & strategies
• Exam techniques
• Stress management
• Analytical & critical thinking skills
