Teacher of Physics

We are seeking Full time and Part time, enthusiastic and experienced Teachers of Physics to teach throughout the BSN Senior School to GCSE IB and A Level. The successful candidate will be a fully qualified teacher, fluent in the English language and should ideally have experience of the British Curriculum. A Second subject would be an advantage.

The Science Faculty is housed in nine well-resourced laboratories, three preparation rooms and has access to a suite of laptops. All laboratories have digital projectors and interactive whiteboards.

Within the Science Faculty, each discipline is encouraged to flourish and make its own identifiable contribution. Currently, Science is taught by one teacher per form in Years 7 and 8 as a combined course following a KS3 programme of study. In Years 9 to 11, the three sciences are taught separately by subject-specialists.  In Years 10 and 11 approximately half the cohort follow AQA Separate Sciences with the remainder following AQA Science and Additional Science.

The Physics Department has followed the Edexcel specification at A-Level very successfully for many years and has recently enjoyed success in the IB Diploma. A significant number of candidates are entered each year for leading Universities in a variety of countries including England, the Netherlands and the USA to read Physics and Engineering. In addition a number of students take part in the Physics Olympiad.

The excellent results achieved by the department speak for themselves, but they also contribute to the popularity of the Physics post-16, with the department achieving 100% A* - C at GCSE for the last three years; over 40% A*/A/B in A level Physics for the previous two years and 50% of Higher Level IB candidates achieving grades 7/6/5.

At present, around 70 students, both boys and girls, are studying Physics at sixth form level, with majority taking A level, a similar number is expected each year.

The Science Faculty comprises fifteen full and part-time teaching and technical staff. All members of the Faculty are encouraged to play a full role in its development (e.g. contributing to the writing and revising schemes of work). The Physics Department currently comprises a Head of Department, two full time physicists, and two part time physicists.
