Junior Music / Performance

On Tuesday, 23 May, Junior School Leidschenveen Year 3 put on an amazing performance of the Dutch traditional tale “Vrouwtje van Stavoren“ – or, The Lady of Stavoren.

This well-loved story tells the tale of a wealthy lady who lived in the prosperous harbour town of Stavoren in the Middle Ages, and wanted to find the most precious object in the world. The children had learned about the story as part of their topic on European countries, and were very excited to be able to act and sing it out to their audience. Every child spoke, sang and danced with real enthusiasm, and they all put together a very enjoyable and accomplished show.

The musical was written by Gillian Weinberg, Key Stage 2 music teacher at JSL, who was inspired to create the script and songs after her own visit to Stavoren in Friesland several years ago. It was first performed 3 years ago by some of the current Year 6, who thoroughly enjoyed reliving their early acting careers by watching the Y3 performance this week!
