Sixth Form Achievements

Many congratulations to The British School in The Netherlands’ Class of 2017 on their fantastic IB examination results.  This year’s cohort of 32 students includes those studying the IB Diploma Programme and IB Career-related Programme (IBCP) and together they achieved a great set of results.

Commenting on the results, Acting Headteacher, James Oxlade said: “Yet again, we are celebrating another set of fantastic results achieved by our IBDP and IBCP cohorts.  This level of high performance is not down to luck but reflects the students’ hard work throughout the course and demonstrates that an outstanding work ethic,  great teaching and strong support at home all combine into a winning formula that sets students up for the next stage of their education and beyond.”

IB Diploma Programme

With a pass rate of 93.1%, this cohort of IBDP students included 19% who scored 40 points or more and 41% who scored 35-39.

Two BSN students achieved a remarkable 43 points (out of a possible total of 45). Globally, less than 2.5% of IBDP students achieve a total score of 43 or higher. Their success at the highest levels in the IBDP will prepare them well for their future studies which include studying Biomedical Sciences at University College London and Physics and Astronomy at Durham University.

Other high scoring students are heading to Cambridge University to study Chemical Engineering and Rijksuniversiteit Groningen to study Medicine. Three quarters of our students scored above the global average, and the IBDP students are heading to a wide range of university destinations including:

  •          TU Delft to study Computer Science and Engineering;
  •          The University of Warwick to study Politics, Philosophy and Economics;
  •          King’s College London to study Law;
  •          Edinburgh University to study Economics;
  •          Exeter University to study Geography;
  •          Universiteit Utrecht to study Liberal Arts and Sciences

IB Career-Related Programme

Our IBCP students achieved a 100% pass rate.  This programme incorporates the BTEC Business Diploma, a UK qualification equivalent to 2 A Levels. Our students’ average score for this element of the IBDP was double Distinction (DD) which is equivalent to 2 A Levels at grade A.

The flexible nature of the IBCP programme, which includes the Business programme, a languages certificate and two IB Diploma subjects, has enabled all of our students to pursue their future career options including:

  •          Studying Modern Foreign Languages at the University of East Anglia;
  •          Pursuing business interests by helping to start up Den Haag's first "Nitro Coffee" bar;
  •          Studying Sports Coaching at Loughborough College starting in 2018, but taking a gap year in 2017-18  so as to concentrate on training in Long Track Speed Skating for the forthcoming Junior World Cup
