On Friday 8 December, the BSN Swim Team travelled to ACS Cobham in the UK for the annual “Early Bird” competition to take on five other teams in the first ISST format competition.  Despite a lengthy delay on the M25 the swimmers arrived in good spirits and almost immediately went into action to take on the likes of Cobham, The Americam School of London, Hillingdon, The International School of Brussels and, for the first time ever, Reed Swimming Club.

There were some excellent swims from numerous swimmers, with Sean Niewold and Nikolas Lupi the stand out athletes, winning both of their individual events by very large margins. The relay teams put in some strong performances and did well claim to claim four podiums in the six events entered. The team finished a respectable 3rd overall, with a pleasing 23 personal best times being achieved in the 32 events entered.

Following a quick morning session in Cobham’s impressive onsite pool, the team had a rather uneventful trip back to The Netherlands, thankfully just managing to get in ahead of the winter weather.

The team now heads into the Christmas break before the early morning sessions start in January. The team then has the local SMASH meet to look forward to as part of their final preparations for the ISST event in March 2018.
