School Trips

14-18 October is Trips & Activities week for our Senior School students. School trips, cultural excursions and residential visits represent a wealth of learning opportunities for students across all the age ranges.

From local day trips and short residentials right through to long international expeditions students get to experience different cultures, environments and activities.  Most trips link closely with the curriculum and are designed to support and broaden the work being undertaken in class.

The Senior Schools have two designated trip windows, in the Summer and Autumn Terms. The Junior Schools have a series of windows in the Summer Term. Here is a taster of what our Senior School students are up to this week. For daily updates, follow their adventures by searching for BSN Trips on Twitter.

SSV Year 10-13s put their classwork to the test all over Europe

While some Senior School Voorschoten (SSV) students are experiencing the depth and breadth of history and politics in Moscow and Geography students investigating dune successions in Dorset; Art, Drama, Business and Science students are learning from the richness of London; and German and Spanish students are navigating their way through the wonders of Vienna and Malaga. In the meantime, Food Tech students are covered in the flour and wonder of Italian food mastery in Treviso, and our Sixth Formers are honing their skills in all fields closer to home with work experience, gaining deeper insight into Maths and Further Maths, learning ‘survival cooking’ in preparation for Uni-life and creating their own films.  And, last but not least, our intrepid sailors are spending the week on the North Sea, sailing aboard a Tall Ship!

SSL Year 7-8s and SSV Year 7-9s gain fascinating insights closer to home

Our newest campus, Senior School Leidschenveen (SSL), Year 7 and 8 students are exploring the past and how it has influenced the future, with hands-on exploration of the history and geography of the Netherlands (from Arnhem's Holland Open Air Museum, to the new residential area of Ypenburg, and a coastal field trip). Meanwhile, SSV's Year 7s are learning to sail, tie knots and bond as a year group with ten-pin bowling on the BSN Year 7s much loved annual trip to De Kaag, in Zuid Holland, which SSL's Year 7s enjoyed earlier this term.

Activities have also been arranged on-site by both SSL and SSV campuses for Years 7-9 with students combining their computer coding knowledge with music, learning first aid essentials, performing in drama competitions based on the BSN's Character Profiles, and solving murders on Forensic Science day (to name only a few!).
