BSN celebrates Year 11 learners’ GCSE achievements

Year 11 learners at The British School in the Netherlands (BSN) are celebrating their GCSE results today, 20 August 2026, marking the conclusion of two years of focused study at Senior School Leidschenveen (SSL) and Senior School Voorschoten (SSV).

Across the BSN, 20% of all entries were awarded grade 9, the highest possible GCSE grade. A total of 60% achieved grade 7 or higher, while 88% were awarded grade 5 or higher, and 95% achieved grade 4 or higher.

Behind these results is the commitment of learners across both campuses and the support of their teachers, staff, and families throughout their GCSE studies.

Louise Simpson, CEO of the BSN, said:

Today, we celebrate every Year 11 learner and the work behind these results. The figures demonstrate strong achievement across the BSN, while each result tells a distinct story of effort and progress.

“I am grateful to our teachers and staff for their expertise and care, and to our families for the encouragement they have provided throughout the GCSE years. I congratulate our learners and look forward to welcoming those continuing at the BSN into Sixth Form, while wishing every member of the class well for their next stage.”

Celebrating achievement at Senior School Leidschenveen

At SSL, 21.4% of GCSE entries, more than one in five, were awarded grade 9. This achievement reflects the cohort's sustained effort across a wide range of subjects.

“Our learners have approached their GCSEs with focus, curiosity and determination. It is wonderful to see their effort recognised today, including the many top grades achieved across the year group.

Each learner has contributed to our community in their own way, and we are proud of the progress they have made. Congratulations to this GCSE class, and thank you to the colleagues and families who have helped them reach this point.

Recognising success at Senior School Voorschoten

At SSV, 96.6% of all GCSE entries were awarded grade 4 or higher. These results provide learners with a strong foundation for the next stage of their education.

GCSE study requires sustained effort over two demanding years. Our learners have shown maturity and resilience, and their results give them a strong foundation for the choices ahead.

“We are proud of their individual achievements and of the way they have supported one another. I offer my warmest congratulations to every learner and my thanks to the staff and families who have contributed to their success.”

The BSN Sixth Form offers pathways to support the best programme of study for each individual: A Levels, BTECs, the International Baccalaureate Diploma Programme and the International Baccalaureate Career-related Programme. These options provide a pathway suited to learners’ interests, strengths and future plans.
