One of our great strengths at The BSN is the multinational make up of our student population. However, with over 80 different nationalities across our schools, ensuring our teachers have the skills to meet the needs of all our EAL (English as an Additional Language) learners requires constant upskilling of our staff.

A group of 23 teachers, from all faculties at Senior School Voorschoten, took the certified ‘Teaching ESL Students in Mainstream Classrooms: Language in Learning across the Curriculum’ programme developed by global leaders in the field, the Department for Education and Child Development, Government of South Australia. With our culturally diverse student body, this programme provides vital training in supporting pupils for whom English is not their native language - although the programme facilitates learning for all pupils. The 50-hour programme, delivered through the year, was facilitated by licensed trainers from the Learning Support Faculty at BSN.

This is the fifth year of the programme which took place on training days and after school hours. Acting Head James Oxlade has made it a requirement for all new staff to take the course during their first two years, and as a result, nearly one hundred Senior School teachers have now taken the programme! The International Leadership Academy will be making this programme available to both BSN staff and staff from international schools for 2017-2018.
