Senior School Event

This week, the first Tech Campus was held at BSN Senior School, where students in years 7 – 11 had the chance to get hands-on with exciting new technology.

Over the past week, Tech Campus has been an opportunity for students to explore a wide variety of gadgets and new technologies in a challenging and hands-on way. Students were motivated to join this new programme for different reasons, be it a goal to pursue engineering or computer science in sixth form or at university, or an interest in trying out new things and discovering what excites them in the wide world of technology. Whatever their motivation was, students came to Tech Campus with open minds and an excitement to learn. Throughout the week there was an atmosphere of problem-solving and collaboration – where students were inspired to think beyond their assignments and start to form ideas for how they want to grow and develop their skills in the future.

The week began with an introduction to new technologies, sharing their dreams for future inventions and innovations and testing out some of the tech they would explore in the week. They went on to learn about soldering, IoT and RaspberryPi, and saw how creativity and technology come together through 3D design, scanning and printing their own designs. The week ended with exploration into VR/AR and voice assistants, trying out virtual reality games and other environments, creating their own 360 videos, and setting up Voice Assistant hardware and software.

The students in Tech Campus were creative problem solvers throughout the week, rising to each challenge and allowing the Tech Campus activities be a jumping-off point for their own exploration into technological innovation. The first BSN Tech Campus was such a success, and it will be exciting to see this programme grow in the future.

Thank you to the staff and guest facilitators throughout the week who supported and inspired this group of students!
