Generation Walk Ends In Musical Fanfare

Senior & Sixth Form

Last week saw Senior School Voorschoten students and BSN staff take part in the 6th Generation Walk where one 16 year old pushed a lady as old as 102.

So many aspects were a first for our Year 12IB and A level students from  as well as our new Head Teacher Mr Topping. The students, elderly ladies and gentlemen and BSN staff however took it all in their stride and very much enjoyed making their way towards their first destination on Wednesday – Theehuis Jansland  in the Rosenburgh woods near school.

The students had two tasks: to politely ask how old their passenger was and to ask about their profession when they were young. One student discovered his elderly lady had started work in a garden centre at the age of twelve, whilst another had been a seamstress for C&A from the age of 15.

After last week’s rain, the sun miraculously shone and the Creativity, Activity Service (CAS) experience on the whole went to plan. On Friday four students brought in home-made cakes for the elderly to savour before they set off for a tour of the school and a stroll down a leafy lane. To everyone’s surprise the walk ended with an energetic performance by a band called the DorsTvlegels, which was quite a fanfare with drums and brass instruments.  The Manager of the home Foreschate-Topaz thanked the students and also the band for creating a truly 'gezellig' Generation Walk and musical finale.
