Results Senior & Sixth Form

After a long summer of anticipation, The British School in The Netherlands (BSN) Year 11 students from Senior School Voorschoten (SSV) and Senior School Leidschenveen (SSL) received an impressive set of GCSE exam results today, 24 August 2023.

A Historic Moment for SSL and the BSN

Senior School Leidschenveen, the BSN's newest Senior School, welcomed its first cohort of Year 7 students in September 2018, making this the school's first-ever set of GCSE exams. SSL entered 63 students for 594 exams in 22 subjects.

James Oxlade, SSL Headteacher, welcomed the school's first exam results.

This is a proud moment for our students, who have shown themselves to be conscientious, determined and curious young people.

'It's gratifying to see their efforts rewarded: Nearly a third of our students achieved an average point score over 7, 15% of all grades were 9, and 44% of our students achieved five or more results graded at a 7 or above.

'As always, the averages are only a snapshot of what the students have achieved, with the support of their teachers, staff, families, and classmates, over the last two years.

There are many notable individual successes, and above all, the students have faced and overcome challenges and progressed in their learning. Well done!

SSV Continues to Achieve Impressive Outcomes

At SSV, 130 students were entered for 1163 exams across 29 subjects. Against the context of the UK news media predicting a possible drop in GCSE results due to a return to the pre-pandemic grade boundaries, the Senior School Voorschoten GCSE results compare very favourably to 2019.

Patrick Heuff, SSV Headteacher, said:

"A hearty congratulations to all of the students who received their results today! It is noteworthy that 64% of all results were graded 7 to 9, five students achieved eight or more results of 9s, and two of our students achieved 9s on all of their exams. We have particularly excelled in the Sciences (including Computer Science) and Maths, but across all the subjects, our students have done tremendously well.'

These results reflect the quality of teaching and our students' incredible attitude, dedication and resilience. The Year 11 students achieved excellent GCSE results and should be incredibly proud of themselves.

BSN Pride: A Banner Day

BSN CEO, Heath Monk, said,

This GCSE Results Day is especially momentous as it marks the first set of exam results for Senior School Leidschenveen. The SSL community, Senior Leadership team led by James Oxlade, staff and students have all played a vital role in shaping the culture and development of their campus.

'The fantastic results received today are proof that their hard work is paying off. Today is just the beginning of the bright future ahead for SSL and its students, and I look forward to the launch of the Sixth Form in September.

Results Day is a moment to celebrate the accomplishments of our young people, the work and commitment of the teachers and staff who have guided and encouraged them, and the tireless support from their parents, families and friends.

'On behalf of the entire BSN community, I offer my sincere congratulations on what has been achieved this year".

The Journey Continues in the BSN Sixth Form this September

Whether at Senior School Leidschenveen, where they will be offering the International Baccalaureate (IB) programmes, or at Senior School Voorschoten, where students have a choice of pathways, including the IB and A-Levels, the BSN teachers and staff are looking forward to welcoming these students to the Sixth Form. Whatever their goals, our students will further their holistic development and find the support, challenges and opportunities to meet their individual goals.
