A Gift from the Heart

Sixth Form

About six years ago 3 IB students set up a small group to make heart pillows for women who had undergone surgery following breast cancer.

BSN students have since made around 200 sets of pillows to send to local hospitals in Leiden, Delft and The Hague. This year’s IB Heart Pillows group is larger than every with around 30 students clipping, ironing, stuffing and sewing closed pillows in a production line each week. The American Women’s Club in The Hague kindly distributes the pillows for us. They were amazed to be given 34 sets of pillows made in just one term.

Helen Kirkwood who is CAS Coordinator at SSV said:

This Creative CAS experience ticks many boxes – students learn practical skills they never expected to learn, work collaboratively in the process and care for the welfare of others.

The opportunity would not be available if it weren’t for the help and dedication over the years of parents, teaching an support staff who guide the students every week for a term and a half.

We're proud of these students for this heartfelt initiative!
