Whole School 80 Nationalities

The BSN is comprised of one school, four campuses, and over #80nationalities. We benefit from the support and input of our staff and community that come from a vast array of cultures. This past Monday our Indian community at the BSN gave us another reason to celebrate as one school.

October 2nd was Mahatma Gandhi’s birthday – to many he was a man who represented perseverance and peaceful protest. This is why this day has been appointed as the International Day of Non-Violence. The Indian Embassy joined the BSN is celebrating this at each campus in their own unique way.

All three junior schools held an assembly led by Indian students and parents about non-violence and the movement’s initiated by Gandhi. At Senior School, a presentation and discussion led by the Indian Ambassador to the Netherlands was enjoyed by all, including Head Teacher Mr Topping. Students in Year 6 from each campus discussed some of Gandhi’s famous quotes, listened to further information about this life and reflected upon the relevance of it for the day. It was a day full of learning and open conversation -which is exactly what this day is all about.

Parents, staff and students who took part found the day to be an enjoyable community event. A quote from parent Estelle P., as her daughter recalls the day perfectly sums up what we would want to hear from parent and student:

“’Mummy there was a man called Gandhi, he was living in India. There was a kind of a war and instead of fighting with weapons he decided to talk and talk again and it worked.’ So in a very simple manner, I want to thank you all!”
