At the beginning of June, both our Junior School campuses, Junior School Leidschenveen (JSL) and Junior School Vlaskamp (JSV) celebrated the joy of books and reading for their BSN Book Days, which took place on 3 and 4 June respectively.
A Warm Welcome to a Special Guest!
We were thrilled to welcome visiting children’s author, Lucy Ann Unwin, to both JSL and JSV. Lucy is the author of three children’s books, ‘How to be a Revolutionary’, ‘The Octopus, Dadu and Me’ and the newly-published ‘Inside Your Brain’ (which we can’t wait to read!).

Visiting both campuses over their respective Book Days, Lucy led whole-school assemblies for our students, sharing a fascinating glimpse into her life as an author – from where she draws her inspiration, to how she develops her ideas into full stories. A particular highlight was the live Q&A session, which students prepared thoughtful questions for.
Lucy also facilitated hands-on creative writing workshops for Year 5, in which students explored using their senses to enhance their storytelling – by describing the scent of an orange, and a ‘magical portal’ to transport us to another place, sparking some truly imaginative writing!
Afterwards, Lucy was kind enough to personally sign students’ copies of her books.
Thank you so much, Lucy, for your visit and for inspiring our students!
Thank You For a Brilliant Book Day!
Our Book Days are always a highlight in the BSN calendar, and this year’s were no exception! It was a wonderful celebration of the books that mean so much to us (and, it was a welcome opportunity for us to discover new favourites!).
You can find magic wherever you look. Sit back and relax, all you need is a book!
– Dr. Seuss
A big thank you to all the BSN staff members involved in making this possible at both campuses. We’re already looking forward to our Senior School Book Days, taking place at both campuses, Senior School Leidschenveen (SSL) and Senior School Voorschoten (SSV) on 13 June!
