We are proud to share our students’ outstanding achievements in this year’s Dutch Maths Olympiad (Nederlandse Wiskunde Olympiade), with the BSN team placing third overall out of 316 schools nationwide.

This prestigious annual competition recognises the top-performing Maths students across the Netherlands. A total of 66 Senior School Voorschoten (SSV) students from Years 8-12 participated in the highly challenging two-hour paper. The overall ranking is calculated from the combined results of the top two students in Years 10, 11 and 12.

Additionally, our top girls’ scores ranked fifth nationally, and our Year 8-10s again ranked third. (A special mention to Year 12 student Nicolas for achieving a perfect score!)
Of all our participating students, 21 students qualified for the second round, having attained scores within the top 13-14% of entrants in their respective age groups. The second round will take place at Leiden University in March.

These results reflect not only the students’ strong commitment and ability, but also the quality of teaching within the Mathematics Department. A big thank you to SSV Maths Teacher Rosamund Bradbury for supporting the students throughout.
We’d like to congratulate all participants on their remarkable achievements, and we wish our qualifiers every success in the next stage of the competition in March!
Here is one of the Maths problems from the paper – can you solve it?
