We are delighted to announce that, following their GCSE examinations, six Year 12 students at The British School in the Netherlands (BSN) from both our Senior School Leidschenveen (SSL) and Senior School Voorschoten (SSV) campuses have been recognised with Pearson Outstanding Learner Awards. These prestigious awards celebrate students who achieved the highest marks locally, regionally, and even globally in their GCSE and A-Level examinations.

Students were recognised for their exceptional results across a range of subjects, including Physical Education, Spanish, Computer Science, Mathematics, German, and Music.

About the Pearson Outstanding Learner Awards

The Pearson Outstanding Learner Awards recognise the achievements of top-performing international students who have attained the highest marks in Pearson Edexcel qualifications, including GCSEs and A-Levels. As the UK’s largest awarding body, Pearson supports over 3.4 million students worldwide each year through its qualifications.

There are three levels of recognition available for each subject:

  • Highest Mark in the World
  • Highest Mark in the Region
  • Highest Mark in the Country

The awards highlight exceptional academic performance on a global scale and serve as a testament to the hard work and dedication of learners around the world.

Student Reflections on Receiving the Awards

“Receiving the award made me feel incredibly proud of myself and the countless hours of work that I put into my exams, and this proved that all my studying was worth it. Above that, it also made me feel so grateful to have had Mrs Morgan as my teacher for the two GCSE PE years. She was one of the best teachers I ever had and she truly cared about every student doing the best they can do, and this was constantly evident throughout the course. The amount of time and effort that she put in to help us through the stressful time was truly amazing.”

- Eitan

“I was honoured to receive the award. It meant a lot to have both my own and my parents’ efforts in developing my Spanish recognised, and it’s motivated me to keep pushing forward with A-Level Spanish.”

- Paul

“Receiving the award has been an incredibly rewarding experience. It was great to see the dedication and hard work I put into History have paid off. In particular, I would like to thank my history teachers, Ms. Turner and Ms. Archer, without whom this certainly would not have been possible. It took a great deal of practice and perseverance to reach the standard that I could be truly proud of. This award is a meaningful reflection of this.”

- Pragnya

“I was surprised but very proud to receive the Pearson Outstanding Learner Award. It was nice to see my efforts rewarded in this way and it motivates me to continue trying to achieve my best in my further academic career.”

- Stella

“It has been a great honour receiving these awards, as it has truly felt rewarding to see the hard work and efforts pay off. While there is still a long journey ahead, I am proud of what I have achieved so far, and this recognition has motivated me to persevere at every step of the journey.

Celebrating Our Students

Earlier in the school year, students at both campuses were formally recognised for their achievements during award ceremonies. These events provided an opportunity to celebrate their success with peers, teachers, and families.

Duncan King, Acting Headteacher at SSL on the students’ achievements:

Receiving one of these awards is an incredible achievement; to be one of the top-performing international students worldwide can only result from an outstanding commitment to your studies. We are so proud of this year group and what they have achieved. They are fantastic role models for the year groups that follow at SSL.

Congratulations to all six students on their remarkable achievements! Receiving Pearson Outstanding Learner Awards is a testament to their hard work and perseverance. As they enter their final year of study next year, we wish them every success for their upcoming examinations and continued academic journey.
