On Sunday, 24 June, five students represented the BSN at the MidZomerTriathlon in Leidschendam.

The triathlon had been moved from a Friday night to the Sunday and this resulted in big crowds as the students jumped in to the Rijn-Schiekanaal just past Leidschendam Lock and headed towards Voorschoten for the 250 metre swim.  The students did well in the water and moved through the transition on to the bike for the 9 km cycle around the Bird Lake at Vlietland with a number of the students at the head of the field.  Following the bike leg, the students completed the triathlon with a 2,5 km run along the banks of the canal.

In what was their first ever competitive triathlons, Euan came in an impressive 5th place overall with Justin coming 11th.  Peter in Year 8 did brilliantly, finishing 14th in a field that included a number of Dutch youth internationals and much older athletes.  Luke (20th) and Magnus (30th and one of the youngest in the race) completed the competition.

A great achievement for all of the students.  They are now looking forward to future events and we would like to extend a massive thank you to Paul van Brink for organizing and training the team.
