In Memory of Yalçin Canatan

Mr Yalçin Canatan, a long-serving and deeply committed member of the Board of Governors has passed away.

Yalçin served as a Governor for nearly 25 years, initially as Chair of the Board at our School in Assen (the Helen Sharman School) and later as Governor for Finance for many years.

He played a pivotal role in shaping many of the School’s key decisions, and the Board greatly benefited from his wisdom and guidance. Yalçin was a kind and generous man with a wry sense of humour, and we were privileged to know him both as a colleague and as a friend.

In recent years, he endured profound personal losses, the passing of his wife, Els, and, more recently, the loss of his voice. He faced these challenges with remarkable stoicism and dignity.

Yalçin retired from the Board this summer but continued as a Member of the Association.

The funeral will take place in Assen on Friday. Michael Wardropper, Link Governor for Finance and SSV, and Peter Bayliff, Chair of the Board of Governors will attend on behalf of the school.

The BSN could not have wished for a more loyal and dedicated supporter than Yalçin. Our community extends heartfelt condolences to his family and friends
