Welcome Back to School: A New Year Begins at the BSN

Whole School Open Day / Welcome Day

After a well-earned summer holiday, The British School in the Netherlands was delighted to welcome students, families, and staff back across all four campuses – Junior School Leidschenveen (JSL), Junior School Vlaskamp (JSV), Senior School Leidschenveen (SSL), and Senior School Voorschoten (SSV) – for the start of the 2025–2026 academic year. The energy was palpable across the BSN, as our classrooms, corridors and playgrounds came alive once again!

Prior to the first day of school, the BSN held its Welcome Day – now a recurring annual event – for families.

A Warm Welcome to our New BSN Families

On 29 August, all four BSN campuses hosted Welcome Day events for families new to the school, as well as those making the exciting transition to one of our Senior Schools. The day offered students and families the chance to explore classrooms, meet teachers and classmates, and tour the campuses – all designed to ease first-day nerves and help everyone feel at home before the school year officially began.

At both the Leidschenveen campus and Senior School Voorschoten, the day concluded with a relaxed and sociable barbecue, giving families and staff the opportunity to connect in a friendly, informal setting. It was a pleasure to meet, and welcome back, so many members of our community.

Events like these wouldn’t be possible without all of the fantastic people involved. A big thanks to the many staff and teams who collaborated to ensure everyone had a smooth start to the academic year (with special thanks to our Concierge team). Thank you, also, to our BSN Family Association for their continued support, and to our partners Zein International Childcare and The Hague International Centre for joining us on the day at our Leidschenveen and Vlaskamp events.

A Milestone for the BSN: Introducing Our New CEO

This academic year marks the beginning of an exciting new chapter for the BSN, as Louise Simpson begins her first full school year as Chief Executive Officer. Her arrival comes at a pivotal time for the school, with opportunities to build on the BSN’s strong foundations and continue shaping its future as we head into our centenary. The year ahead promises to be one of thoughtful progress and renewed focus, guided by a clear commitment to the BSN’s mission, values and ensuring each child and young person in our care receives an education of great quality.

Reflecting on her first BSN event, Louise Simpson, CEO, shared:

It was fantastic to meet so many new families at all four of our schools at our Welcome Day. Families from all over the world are joining this term, bringing richness and character to our community.

Welcome to you all and I look forward to working with you in the months and years ahead!"

Stepping Into a New School Year

There’s something special about the energy a new school year brings – for many in our community, it represents a whole host of ‘firsts’.

With a school calendar full of events, trips, and celebrations on the horizon, there’s plenty to look forward to, and it promises to be a year full of memorable moments.

We wish our BSN community an unforgettable school year!
