Following the outstanding GCSE and A-Level results achieved by students from Senior School Voorschoten, The British School in The Netherlands, this year, Pearson has awarded 16 Outstanding Pearson Learner Awards to 12 students.

The awards are presented to students with the highest marks and highest grades in their subject in each exam series. By winning one of these awards, our students have competed against thousands of other learners who have taken the same subject in the country and globally.

Well Deserved Recognition

Patrick Heuff, Senior School Voorschoten Headteacher, extended his congratulations to the students:

"We were delighted that so many have also been recognised as achieving the highest individual grades in their subjects both within the Netherlands and Europe, with some reaching the highest marks worldwide.

These are incredible achievements, and they should be very proud of their results. Well done to all of these students; they definitely deserve this recognition.

'Our students achieved some outstanding exam results this summer. Many of our leaving Year 13 students secured places in some of the best universities globally, including two going to the University of Cambridge."

Reflecting on Their Achievements

Following the news that they earned the Outstanding Pearson Learner Award for one or more of their GCSE or A-Level results, some students shared what this recognition meant to them.

"When I received the Outstanding Learner Award, I was filled with a feeling of pride and accomplishment. Through countless hours of hard work, dedication and determination, I am honoured and humbled to be recognised for my efforts."

  • Yuhan (Charles)

"It is truly an honour to be recognised for our achievements through such a prestigious award. It is undoubtedly a testament to the hard work and dedication, not only by us students, but also the educational environment that provided us with the platform to prosper."

  • Salah

"I am very grateful to receive this award and thereby extend my gratitude to my History teacher (Mr Bennett) and my German teacher (Mr Quick). It is only through their passion and expertise that I was motivated to work hard in class, revise well for exams and read books/watch movies on the course."

Outstanding Pearson Learner Awards

Every year, Pearson awards students who have demonstrated academic excellence at superlative levels in recognition of their exam performance. There are three Outstanding Pearson Learner Award categories per subject, which are possible to award to all Pearson Edexcel learners who sat for any Pearson qualifications during an exam series. These categories include:

  • The Highest Mark in the World
  • The Highest Mark in the Region
  • The Highest Mark in the Country

Supporting Students to Face New Challenges in Sixth Form

The students who received this extraordinary recognition are now building on what they have learnt and achieved with their classmates in Sixth Form, the next stage of their academic journey.

Heath Monk, BSN CEO,

"Congratulations to all the students who have received the Outstanding Pearson Learner Awards in recognition of their superb GCSE results.

This achievement is evidence of your determination to succeed, despite the challenges faced over the past two years. This will serve you well as you continue in your educational career.

Vicki Hallatt, Senior School Voorschoten Deputy Headteacher,

"Huge congratulations to all the students recognised, and thanks to everyone involved in supporting them!

We are proud of our students’ progress and achievements throughout their time with us, whether through their academic results or taking on new challenges outside the classroom.

None of this would be possible without the support the families and staff provided to ensure that each student achieves their best. We are delighted to see your hard work continue now in Sixth Form and at university."
